Recently, I wrote an article about best practices for locking your bike so that it would still be there when you return. In this article, I took a moment to single out bike thieves as generally crappy people. I said that while bike thieves are bad people they don’t rate as Hitler or Carrot Top bad.
Well, the bike I encountered in this picture has changed my mind on where to put bike thieves on the Good/Evil continuum:
This is a picture of an Austin ghost bike with its rear wheel stolen. For those of you unfamiliar with ghost bikes, they are anonymously placed, white painted bikes that are erected as a memorial to a cyclist killed on that spot. They are meant to remember those who have died cycling and bring attention to the problem of reckless driving.
So it appears that not only has this thieve taken a beat up wheel of limited use, they are essentially pissing on the memory of this death person.
Looks like bike thieves have just past Carrot Top and are zeroing in on the bottom rung of Hell.

At least somebody won’t have to walk home because their wheel was stolen …
