You'll bite your glove as well when you see the price of this Rapha Tweed Shell
‘Twas the week before Christmas, and I was searching the web,
hoping America’s habit of buying crap would finally ebb.
Seeking left and right for a silly item to mock,
with nothing to write about on Friday at 2 o’clock.
When what should my weerly eyeballs peek,
but another winner of Austin Bike Blog’s Dumbest Product of the Week.
I had looked at things Japanese and from Neiman’s but was baffled,
what ho’ I found just the thing from posh cycling cloths maker Rapha.
Did I find pricy bib shorts or silk scarfs measuring 50 by 50?
No, instead I saw a natty tweed shell for the low, low price of 750.
Not priced in pesos, yen, or cents for this glorified riding jacket,
the folks at Rapha are charging a quarter of a grand, in my opinion quite a racket.
Having poked fun at Yakkay, at Cordarounds, and at DryHigh,
pointed to the silly in Ditka, Ferrari, and vests DIY,
I was truly, truly taken aback,
to find something as overpriced as Bontrager’s seat post rack.
Rapha makes products that are stylish, yes cool,
but to spend over seven c-notes would make me a fool.
So who is their customer, to whom do they fence?
It is obivous to me someone with more money than sense.
So as Christmas approaches and you are becoming quite frantic,
searching for the perfect gift for that cycling fanatic,
Let us remember the man who’s birth we are to cheer,
with some of the words he really wanted us to hear,
“If you wish to be complete, go and sell your possessions and give to the poor”,
it sounds to me like happiness does not come from buying stuff from a store.
So if spending some money at Christmas is part of your belief,
why not donate to Yellow Bike Project or World Bicycle Relief.
And skip the expensive jacket, even if it is something you like,
Merry Christmas to all, now go ride your bike.
