Feelin’ old

So I’m feeling like a foggie now. Last night was this month’s Full Moon Ride, and Marcus and I had been planning on going for days. I’d like to us at Austin Bike Blog to cover more bike culture in Austin, but that requires us to actually go to bike culture events.

After psyching myself up to stay up past 10, I made the fatal mistake of trying to take a nap in the evening so I would’nt be too tired. I should know from my college days, you never, ever nap; you plow on with more and more coffee. So when my alarm went off at 10:30 last night, I just didn’t have it in me to head out the door. I called Marcus and heard myself say “This midnight cruise would be great if it was scheduled earlier.”

That’s it. I’m old. Case closed!

In the meantime, you can enjoy some great pictures taken by people who aren’t excited by the early bird special (unless it’s a really late breakfast) over at the Full Moon Austin Flickr group. We’ll reload here and work on bringing you coverage of cycling events that happen while the sun is up.

And get off my lawn, you twerp.

    You think you’re feelin’ old?
Try being 55, and getting back into cycling, this time as a commuter after about ten years away from my last serious fitness/recreational riding (whilst raising a kid to Middle School age).
I was kinda forced into it when my ol’ work-car croaked on me, and now that I live here in Austin, close enough to bike to work (in Houston, I lived some 30 miles from work), I decided not to buy another car to replace the dead one.
It’s been a struggle to get back to a fitness level good enough to make that ride to work, and although I haven’t really lost much weight in the process, I have been reaping other health benefits, such as a vastly improved cardio fitness level, and greatly increased physical stamina. Not to mention more energy overall, and a general well-being that I had been sorely lacking for a long time.
Two years later, I still haven’t even given much of a thought to replacing that ol’ car. Even when the wife and daughter take ‘the’ car out of town on some weekends, I find I can go anywhere in town that I need to with my trusty bike and Cap Metro. It may take longer to get there, but at my age, I’m beginning to appreciate that old phrase, ’stop and smell the roses’.
