After another one week absence, our “Dumbest Product of the Week” is back for its tenth edition. My thanks to Marcus for filling in last week with a Dumbest Bank of the Week.

I’ve been on a bit of a food and drink binge with this series lately, and this week we are continuing the trend.  (Bonus points if you find all the puns in this article.)

This week’s nominee also continues the iMacification (or iPodification for those too young to remember the first group of iMacs) of random pieces of plastic with the offering of the Banana Guard, a phallic container designed to protect your nanner from getting squished, in five different colors.

I have to admit that when I first saw this product I thought it was some sort of Spinal Tap induced joke. Then at a family reunion, I actually came across one in the possession of one of my cousins. I tried mighty hard, ahem, I used great restrain by not laughing in my cousin’s face when presented with said fruit protecting device.

Now, I’m as bummed as the next guy when I pack away a banana for later only to find it a gooey mess. But, you know what? Bananas, much like cookie dough, still taste pretty damn good in any state.

The other thing is why are we making a banana even harder to eat on the bike?! Nature already provides a nice tidy container for this sweet goodness, why add another container around the current wrapping. It takes me twice as much time and effort, then I’ve got this bulking package to keep up with.

The idea of keeping up with yet another container, accessory, or tool is none too appealing to me. I just hope we run out of oil already so we stop making silly plastic crap like this.
